About The Blog

I am one of those unfortunates who possesses one of those useless things (you know, an Arts degree) which makes me qualified to speak of a great many things, none of them with any credibility. It's this I enjoy most.

Here you will find completely subjective reviews of music, arts, literature, video games, automotives, and politics, all firmly fixed with a firm numerical quotient, thereby undermining the post-modern basis upon which such reviews are based. Basically, here I will bullshit about a great many topics, and then end each post with a number, ala Pitchfork media (see link below). It should be fun. Now a word about my background in each topic.

Music: While no musician, I understand the basic premises of western music, and have, within the past five years, become increasingly well-versed in the history of popular music, and will bring this to my reviews of albums, concerts, and music headlines alike. Here I will not restrict myself to reviewing only recent music or of only a certain type. My mantra for this is simple (as borrowed from Louis Armstrong): There are only two types of music, good and bad. Here I will decipher the good from the bad, from past and present, from classical to Off-pop-indie-trip-hop-electroclash-fuzz-folk-melodic-death, and possibly everything in-between.

Art/Literature/Movies: My background is most directly in this field, especially literature, but this will probably be limited to random reviews about classical literature (which I'm currently into) and rants about Oprah, and bad hollywood movies (plus the occasional great ones).

Video Games: I've always been a gamer, pure and simple, and unlike many other topics, video games are amazingly easy to judge objectively. Do they do their job? Do they contribute something new? Do they control well? These are basics, and easily quantifiable. There is a slant (preferred genre, disagreement as to the "job" of the game, etc.), but it's fairly easy to discern in the review.

Automotive: I'm a car enthusiast too. Specifically the dreaded "sport-compacts" that sound like fart cans on wheels. This is due to the fact that I hate large vehicles as gregarious wastes of precious natural resources, and that they are dangerous to other drivers. As such, trucks and SUVs will receive a large share of bashing here, while the Mazda3 will be revered as holy. As well, the automakers will fall into this category, despite their likely counting as part of the "politics" header.

I also used to touch more often on politics, but yeah, that's not always my style. I may still do so on occasion, but it's not a big focus of mine anymore.
